“My journey, my wrath, my Odessa” were loud words incanted by these prime roses as I grilled 'em hot on a four-cooled-cornered wall of Viva Entertainment Press Room. For them, this factual event in their lives spearheaded by music is just a fundamental step onwards their musical journey. It didn't come to my senses that these petite and not so petite girly trios would be making music this loud and big. Hence, they would run countering auditory prejudice and stereotype with almost all-male dominated rock and roll arena. Nonetheless, “close your eyes...” as one of the members cunningly points, as if to say there is magic to them more than just meet the eyes.
They seriously welcome music in their lives since their high school years. Paige, the trio's spokes woman (just here), bassist and vocals, commenced, “before, we joined in a competition. Then I met Ann. Then we finally realized that we wanted to pursue music.” Reassuring that it's just like opportunity strikes once in a big blue moon. So here they are taking their best shot, “it's once in a lifetime! Bihira lang kaming mabibigyan ng ganitong opportunity.” However, they're open to the fact that they could recess if things won't work out; hang those sticks and guitars, and get done with the homework.
Now, their album talks! After a year of adjustments and scouting of reliable recording label in Manila, they finally picked the juicy fruit of their musical prowess they self-titled, “My Odessa” which comes in purple and Gothic aura. “Viva, Viva designed the album covers. Then pinakita sa amin 'yung samples, tapos pinapili kami. Then sila 'yung nag-provide ng reason (laughter) kung bakit 'yan ang design ng album namin.” Viva on the other hand, gave warm welcome and opportunity to roses like these who want to prove something beyond categorical impressions.
Considerable time was spent to make some handfuls of original songs, “So, from Davao, we have three songs. Then pagdating namin ng Manila, sinabihan kami na gumawa pa ng three more songs para anim lahat. So within a month nakagawa kami ng three more songs. Tapos dinagdagan pa ng apat, so ten lahat.” The girls said to have virtually hibernated upon arriving Manila to make songs. With Paige and Sid's father helping them, they come up with songs which find their way to the recording studio.
“Baroque is all about our dog na nakagat si Ann sa lips noon. Charlie pangalan nya.” Anyway, this first single is all-about a dog named Charlie which seems not in terms with Ana. Others are just details.
The group is rather comfortable making songs in English (preferably) than any language. Nonetheless, they've made some on their debut album.

You shoot out of school just to (to formally form this group), in behalf of music, excuse me to question priorities, but are you really willing to gamble education with music?
Actually nasa college na po kami(Paige) ni Ana eh, then we dropped it all. Anyway, we have our parents to watch over us. Pero kami ni Ana malapit na. So, kung itinuloy namin yun, siguro graduate na kami ngayon.
How was this related to the song “numb?”
(Sid) Yeah, to sort priorities parang we can prove to them that is what we really wanted, that we can do this.
Are you willing to be called part of the Visayan Rock they called “Bisrock”?
Our music is supposed to connect people. Parang pumasok po kami ng music para ma-unite namin yung mga tao, because music is a universal language. Kahit wala kang maintindihang language parang makaka-relate ka pa rin kahit na papaano. But we do not deny the fact na mga Bisaya pa rin kami, pero hindi naman meaning na Bisaya kami, eh Bisaya lang talaga kami. Kasi, Bisaya kahit Tagalog pareho lang naman po 'yun eh, Pilipino.
Do you think you'll make it to the rock mainstream with almost all boys’ band contemporaries?
We started joining competition sa Davao and ninety-nine percent mga lalaki talaga lahat ng mga kasali. And we ended up third price. Kasi unang kita nila sa amin, mga babae to, ah wala to (laughs). Yung iba parang iba yung tingin sa amin dahil mga babae kami, parang 'di katangap-tangap. Pero 'di naman namin pinipilit na magagawa namin agad. Parang along the way we will learn new things. Pweding may mga mabago pa kami.
What is “My Odessa” has something to do with the band now?
Yeah, the name of our band before was Enigma, pero may nauna na pala sa amin, so bali ilang beses din kaming nag-change ng name. So, Odessa means “journey and wrath.” Parang, “my journey, my wrath, my Odessa” (laughter).
As newbie on the formal plain of music, can you hint us few of your doubts and fears yet?
Fears na kahit ilang beses ka nang umakyat ng stage, yung pag tanggap ng tao at kung paano ka tataggapin ng mga tao. Kaya advantage pa rin naming na kahit anong mangyari, nagaga-guide pa rin kami. Na kahit anong mangyari, may mangyayari pa ring iba.
You seem comfortable with the three-piece line up; nonetheless do you entertain the notion of welcoming another member?
Before, we tried looking for someone else, pero ok na talaga kami, subrang tight na namin sa isat-isa. So parang naisip namin kung magdadag-dag, parang magbabago na naman ng chemistry. At kung three parang it's a challenge for us, na tatlo lang kami, that we have to play like five or six.
From now, can you determine your prospective fans? Are they more boys or girls and vice versa?
Definitely mga bata. Saka may mga lalaki din. Pero sa nakikita po namin nu'ng nagko-concert po kami, we had kids. Pero may matatanda din naman. Yung mga kids, parang nabibigla sila kasi gumagalaw kami. “Ate, ate how did you know the song?” then 'yun, lalapit sa min.”
How are you as a:
Drummer (Sid)? Noong tinuturuan ako ng tito ko, he thought me to hit it like a guy. Kaya yung training n'ya sa akin dapat pang lalaki talaga so that hindi yung parang manipis yung tunog.
Bassist (Paige)? Challenge din sa akin kasi ako po 'yung kumakanta at the same time nagbi-base. Si Ana nagsu-solo, si Sid nagsu-solo din, so parang ako 'yung rhythm. Pero there will always be room for improvements. Minsan I have to concentrate more 'dun sa vocal. Bali ginagawa namin, kanya-kanyang assignment. Si Ana, pupunta sa father ko para magpaturo. Then after that, we play together without vocal muna. Pag na-perfect na namin, focus na sa vocal.
Lead (Ann)? Tinuturuan po ako ng father ni Paige para ma-achieve yung exact feel ng gitara.

Thank you for supporting. We hope that you'd buy our album (laughs). And this album is really dedicated to every one. And we really value those people who are very supportive to us. They give us the drive to give a big show and it keeps us going.

Harliquen is the track wherein they've spent a little more time on. Paige explained, “may bagsakan po kasi sya sa ending. Talagang hindi lang s'ya 4/4 na beat.” With pop and rock or a combination of those whip on to their album, they are open for further evolution of their music if it's for better, “di po talaga namin masabi kung ano 'yung magiging evolution ng music namin, but definitely time will come that our music will evolve into something.”

That is a proof na lahat ng pinagdaanan namin, it's there. So we dedicate this song to us (laughs). We dedicate this album for our parents, for being supportive to our relatives at sa ibang tao rin.”
