MADELINE RAMBUYONG - PARALUMAN'S “PARALUMAN”

Faces and spaces come and go on our local music scenario mostly speckled by masculine figures bending strings and solid voices; nonetheless Madeline made a fresh face forward to light a soothing gaze amidst crashing cymbals, regardless if her figure may change through time.

With the few moments that she'd graced my recorder, it's worthwhile to know how this rose survives and will survive the 'thorn'-driven rock and roll arena. As a lead vocal of the band Paraluman, how far will she go with her musical cronies doing the beat for her.

As a new kid on the block she's been looking for something or somebody to be stepping stone for an ideal career, “Eraserheads, kasi parang napaka-fit nila as a band kasi kahit na nga iba-iba na yung mga bands nila, parang iba pa rin talaga pag sila nag sama-sama.”

Madeline prioritize the image of the music rather than that of the artists, nevertheless she made it a point to give both a matter to a rock artist. “Puede bang both (laughs). Pero mas nakakaangat talaga yung sa music kasi kaya nga nandito kami because of that,” she asserts. Nevertheless, if given a black or white, she'd go for music.

If she would be the song hummed by many that would be, “In lab, kasi in lab ako sa music and sa band ko.”

Other people would see Madeline like she's getting better and better every other day, “ang galaling mo Mad, nakakaroon na nag force yung voice mo, ok ka nang mag-entertain ng crowds.” Never done away with the negative as she have to bear as a rookie on the street, “yung negative, andu'n pa rin yung hiya ko, mahiyain pa rin kasi ako.”

“Hindi na ako nakakapag LRT, minamarket kasi ako ng management, kaya yung na-give up ko 'yun. Saka 'di na rin ako nakakapunta sa birthday party ng kamag-anak ko. Pero naiintindihan naman nila 'yun.” Further, “Sa pag-aaral na mamanage naman ng maigi yung pag-aaral then 'yung management naman yung bahala sa schedules.” this simple is a sacrifices she made in behalf of music and fame.

She's more to doing songs because she really have to do it not more to the call that she has or they have to do it with the heavy intention of pleasing the crowd, though it would do “hindi naman kami gumawa ng songs para may sabihin yung ibang tao, gumawa kami ng songs kasi 'yun ang nararamdaman namin.”

Madeline advises this early about plunging your feet wet into the scene that it would be, “patience and hard work, then hintay lang ng tamang time para sa magandang break; wag masyadong mag madali at dapat lahat ng ginagawa nila is by heart.”

She would never be left behind playing his own thing such as guitar and a little of everything, “ako yung rhythm guitar dati kasi apat lang kami, pero mas trip ko talagang mag base. Guitar, basic lang kunting power chords, drums, basic din lang, yung piano, kaya ko lang 'dun twinkle, twinkle little star (laughs).”

Though, she've never been into formal musical orientation, Madeline made it to few musical notes with the piano, “yung lolo ko kasi sa tuhod musician. Tinuruan n'ya lang akong mag piano no'n eh. Natuto lang ako sa songhits. Nung nasa band na ako nagkaroon ng kunting orientation, gaya ng voice technique.”

“Kung ano lang yung kailangan ng song 'yun lang yung ibibigay namin,” expresses a no more no less ingredient to their songs, no instrumental excess as well as vocal; their debut album might be telling something about this. The way she philosophizes with the song is the same way she drew her boundaries on discipline, especially on some rockers using illegal drugs, “it's all in the mind. Dapat pag kumanta ka by heart, and it doesn't need any drugs or side elements at all.” This way success is clear for her that it is with the people you are singing with, not with drugs. “Sucess is kung nararamdaman ng tao kung ano yung nararamdaman mo, na hindi ka lang pala nag-iisa; at nakakagawa ako ng song na hindi lang pala ako ang nakakaramdam.”And failure would be the lack of confidence to bring yourself up togerther with your band members.

Madeline sees herself with her band mates making new albums with songs after songs, “sana kami pa rin ng mga ka-banda ko at sana may pang-apat na kaming album, puede 'di ba (laughs).”

Stay “In Lab” is her signature words for her fans and fans to be while she'll be back catching stars off my record.
