Oppppsss, they did it again! Success comes sweetest the second time around in a whole new world of perspective and broadened sense of musicality. Reaching their 'Destination XYZ,' doesn't exhausted yet these rock hunks, they're getting even with unified musical prowess through the looking lens of the Fisheye. Don't mistake them to be making monotony well again because according to Lemuel in their previous interview, “for this album, we put and incorporated synth, violin, keyboards, percussions and Latin beats.” Nonetheless, they're the same individuals you can call and get autographed – Callalily. Trooping the Pinoy headquarter on their casual attire and collegial antics, we've grilled them for an hour or two of interview, sucking from them their thoughts on their newly hewed musical inventiveness putting on the Fisheye perspective.
Kean as the head vocal inaugurates with the question of what exactly inspired you to write the songs on the Fisheye? He commenced, “It’s good. Nagkaroon kasi ako ng era na almost everyday nakakasulat ako ng kanta. ‘Yung pinaka inspiration ko siguro ‘yung ako mismo. Dahil sa nangyayari sa akin everyday. Since ako mismo ‘yung inspirasyon dito sa mga kanta, ‘yung buhay ko s’yempre maraming tao ang involve. It’s mostly about me and kung ano ‘yung pumapalibot sa akin. I just shared through songs lang.”
The two opposing poles of getting higher regard or trash caught them in the middle. The thought that things would huddle grand regard for the band with Fisheye. Alden neutralized the thought, “hindi naman, we go both ways naman eh.” Kean seconded, “I think depende sa ini-expect nila (fans). Basta for me masasabi ko na for keeps ‘tong album na ito.” Alden further thinks of reassuring their fans saying, “it’s Tatsi’s writing debut. Though ‘yung iba sinasabi na less catchy pero okey lang ‘yun. Kasi after they listen to it they will like it din naman for sure (smiles).” Kean adds a sympathy, “well, maraming nagsasabi na medyo bumigat ‘yung music namin ngayon compare sa previous album. Gusto naming ‘yung mga songs dito, so sana magustuhan din nila (fans). Tatsi on the other hand buts in for the sense of uniqueness in the album, he said, “iba ang palo nung mga songs dito sa new album na ito.”
On the album's perspective and wholesome markup Alden clarifies, “parang different perspective. Pero almost the same topics, different point of view.” Kean catches the other side of the balance, “minsan the songs maybe too shallow for everyone.”
Alden clarifies that it's the thought of making it better that challenges their manliness, “easy in a way na kahit papaano well-experienced na kami. Difficult naman in the sense na of course the urge to make it better.” And liking the songs makes it more easy for Kean, “easy for us kasi we like the songs here eh.”
Silverchair, Switchfoot and others were the few mentioned musical influences of the guys. Kean states, “sobrang laki ng naitulong sa akin ng Silverchair , dun sa way ng pagkanta ko.” Then Lemuel, “may mga latin beats kaming sinama dito.”
Kean, who spearheads the penning of the majority of the songs asserts that he doesn't bear the consoling burdens at all. It's rather a conscious teamwork of the bandmates, “siguro hindi lang kami naging p’wersado na dapat may masulat kami. It’s more on kung sino ang may nasulat na, ganun,” Kean told us. Alden grinning, “siguro dahil si Kean lang ‘yung pinaka inspired sa amin to write songs that time.”
He continues, “as a musician I need to be open for everything. I mean open sa lahat ng types of music to broaden your musicality. Kasi habang buhay ka matututo, learning never stops. And most especially respect for others as well. Natutunan ko rin na sobrang ibang klase pala dapat ‘yung pag accept sa swerte. I think were so lucky na sa dami ng banda na sobrang magagaling tapos nandito kami ngayon.
The two remaining gentlemen opens their own interpersonal awareness. Lemuel tells, “sa akin ‘yung pagpapahalaga sa kabanda. Iba kasi ‘yung tugtog na mahal mo ang kabanda mo. Kailangan i-accept na bawat kabanda mo may negative traits. You have to admit na ikaw rin sa sarili mo ganun ka rin.” Aaron utter his line, “kung paano tumugtog ng may puso. ‘Yung tipong hindi lang basta tugtog, kalabit ng gitara.

Can you say that you changed your sound this time?
Kean: Oo naman. Kung dati sinigang ngayon kare-kare na kami (smiles).
What song on the album that took you so long to record?
Kean: ‘Yung ‘Inside My Heart’ inabot kami ng mga three sessions dun. Alden: I think ‘Luha’ as in tapos na ‘yung buong kanta. Parang sa amin hindi ‘yun ‘yung kanta eh. Everytime sa session naming yan lagi ang huling nire-record. So everytime nagagawin na namin ‘yan pagod na kami. Ayaw na namin, kaya it took a while to finish it.
Did you guys take off from school just to finish the album?
Kean: No naman. Actually during the making of the album midterm ko nun eh. So priority ko parin ‘yung studies ko. Kapag natapat na may recording minsan I told them naman na 'di ako p’wede. Minsan naman while waiting sa recording ng next na gagawin I brought my notes 'dun ako nagre-review. Ganun din sila (bandmates).
How long were you guys in the studio for this album?
Kean: Nag start kami sa recording December 26 then release ng March 07. Maybe it took around one month and a half.
How did your recording process work?
Alden: The drums first. Normal recording na buo na ‘yung mga songs. A little bit of impromptu, kumbaga buo na ‘yung idea ‘yung mga mismong ginagawa, iniisip naming on the spot. Kean: ‘Yung kung ano ‘yung dapat maging feel n’ung isang song. Tatsi: ‘Yung ibang song nababago sa recording na. Lemuel; Kasi hindi ka naman synthesizer eh.
Which song on ‘Fisheye’ is totally different from the others?
Kean: ‘Yung ‘Song For The Youth’ in the middle of that song kapag pinapakinggan n’yo medyo iba s’ya. Lahat kami d’yan nag percussion kaya ganun.
Describe your sounds in five words or less, what would it be?
Kean: We sound good (laughs) seryoso na, fusion comes from the heart. Tatsi: Groovy and juicy
How did you decide on Ney and Rye to produce the album?
Kean; Sabi ni Kuya Darwin since si Kuya Rye nag produced nung first album naming. And dahil na rin sa ‘yun naka work na naming sila. Mas maga-guide nila kami dahil malapit kami sa kanila.
What particular song on the album that you guys really proud of writing?
Kean: ‘Fake Lullabies’ tungkol sa buhay mismo. Kung gaano nga ka-deceiving ‘yung mundo. Na minsan akala mo ang isang bagay sobrang ganda ‘yun pala hindi rin minsan. It’s an inspiring song actually. Alden: ‘Yung ‘Trapped Inside The Moment’ aside sa ‘yan lang ang sinulat ko, iba kasi ‘yung kapag pini-play na namin sa gigs eh.
Are there any criteria on what songs to be included on the album?
Alden: Minsan may mga songs na kung ano meron sa song na ‘to meron din s’ya sa isa. So we just choose the other songs naman may ibang feel na rin. Each song has to be beautiful in its own way, parang ganun. Kean: Para hindi s’ya maging paulit-ulit.
